Penetration of multiples is increasing
The number of outlets operated by multiples continues to increase. At the moment 36% of all Dutch retail outlets are part of a retail chain with seven or more branches. With an average floor area of 431 m², chain stores are over 2.5 times bigger than the average independent retailer with an average of floor area 173 m². The penetration is especially evident in A1-A2 locations, where the multiples’ share of thefloor area has now risen to 87% (A1) and 80% (A2) respectively.
